Ask an Arkansas Expert Library

Are there state or federal requirements for a caregiver I would hire to take care of my mother in the home?

No, there are no state or federal training requirements for a person that you would privately hire to come into your home to care for your mother. There are guidelines for home health caregivers, but these guidelines do not apply to privately paid caregivers. There are very few programs in the United States that provide training for privately paid caregivers. We are fortunate in Arkansas to have the Schmieding Center in Springdale which provides training for family and privately paid caregivers.
